Nutcracker Ballet

In memory of Emma  24.4.92 - 24.12.92. As a family we continue to support SOFT due to their fantastic support when Emma was ill.

Even though I was born 4 years after Emma  passed away, her presence is still very much part of our family. Emma is as special today as she was in her short life. My sister Eve and I dance with The Annabelle Watson School of Dance, Farnham Royal, Bucks.

Every 18 months our teacher Annabelle organises a dance show and the proceeds go to a charity, which is relevant to the school. This year SOFT UK was chosen to be the beneficiary charity. The show combines traditional ballet with other forms of dance, and this year’s show was the Nutcracker. My sister Eve paid tribute to Emma by choreographing and performing a solo contemporary piece of dance.

Organising a show takes months of hard work from parents, students, volunteers, and of course Annabelle. The organisation seems endless, but the show was a huge success, and we raised £2,000. This was from raffles, ticket sales, refreshments and donations. Like any charity event it was emotional because everyone had worked so hard to raise money and awareness for our baby cousin Emma. Even after 18 years, Emma’s charm and smile still brightens our day, and reminds us that we were so lucky to have a cousin, daughter, niece, and sister like Emma.

I would like to thank every person involved with the show for helping and being so kind. Of course, it would not have been possible without our teacher Annabelle, who has dedicated her life to teaching us all to dance. My family continue to support every dance show we do, and every charity event we take part in, and have brought such a beautiful human into the world. The person that made this all worthwhile was Emma, who would have loved to dance and been the star of the show.     Annie Miller
