Trisomy in Pregnancy

The majority of families first hear about Trisomy during their pregnancy.  Discussions about potential difficulties in a pregnancy usually come as a huge shock to potential parents.  It is very emotional and therefore can be a difficult time to take on board lots of new information.  Appointments with medical professionals can be short and you may not have been given much information to take away with you. You may have forgotten some of what was said.  You may not have understood all the information completely.  You may have thought of lots of questions after the appointment.  These things are completely normal and will be experienced by most families who find themselves in this situation.

This section of the website aims to walk you through information relevant to Antenatal Diagnosis, step-by-step, in a way you can understand.
This starting point will be different for families depending on a number of factors;

  • where you live - (different screening programmes are available in different places)
  • what stage of pregnancy you are at
  • which type of test you have had
  • what results you have received

SOFT UK offers direct support to families from the moment that parents receive a worrying screening result or a diagnosis of Trisomy 18 or Trisomy 13. We can support you by providing information, listening to your concerns, explaining information and sharing experiences.  All our Support Volunteers are Trisomy parents themselves.  If you would like to talk to one of our Support Volunteers in confidence, please get in touch.
