Trisomy Families asked to contribute to OurCovidVoices

The aim of #OurCovidVoices is to be a first draft of the nation's #COVID 19 history, written by people with long-term health conditions.

Living under #lockdown is tough for everyone. But for families affected by Trisomy it creates huge new challenges. Many of our families have told us of the huge strain they are under living without care services.  The difficulties getting basic supplies and food. The fear that their child may become ill, but they want to stay out of hospital.  The uncertainty of knowing when Sheilding Restrictions will be lifted.  The balance between the need to work and the need to shield.  The fear about what services might, or might not, look like for the person they are caring for in the new Covid-Alert world.

OurCovidVoices aims to create a living record of the impact of the global pandemic on people living with long term health conditions here in the UK.  The fears, the challenges, the highs, the lows, the coping mechanisms, what works, what doesn't.  It provides an important opportunity to contribute to the national message about people who are clinically vulnerable.

We will use the insight generated from contributed stories to influence national and local decision-makers, and to make it easier for them to develop policies and services that have a positive and tangible impact on peoples’ lives. This insight will help us at National Voices make a better case for what needs to happen to improve healthcare once the crisis ends.
Things will be different than they are now. We want to make sure that they are also better.
