World Birth Defects Day - March 3rd

SOFT UK  joins nearly 100 national and global organizations in observing the fifth annual World Birth Defects Day on March 3.

This international event was launched in 2015 to raise awareness of this serious global problem of birth defects and urge more surveillance, research, prevention, and care for individuals and families.

An estimated 8 million babies around the world are born with a serious birth defect each year. 3 million of them will die before their fifth birthday. Those who survive will need life long health and social care needs.

WBDD is campaigning for national surveillance figures to get accurate data on the prevalence of birth defects, with a view to enhanced research.  They are also calling for a commitment to appropriate medical and social care for individuals affected by birth defects.
