SOFT UK Scotland Family Day

Earlier this month, SOFT UK families came together in Scotland

Why We Hold Family Days

Our family days are at the heart of what SOFT UK does. They provide a safe, supportive space for families to meet others who truly understand their journey, to share experiences, and to build friendships that often last a lifetime.

Just as importantly, these days are about sharing information, signposting families to support services, and learning directly from experts and guest speakers. They ensure that families not only leave feeling connected, but also more informed and empowered.

Guest Speakers

We were privileged to welcome three wonderful guest speakers, who each shared their knowledge and compassion with our families:

  • Dr. Una MacFadyen, Retired Paediatrician – offering insight and wisdom from her many years of experience.

  • Joanne Robison, SANDS Bereavement Support Services Co-ordinator – Scotland – guiding families through the importance of support in times of grief and loss.

  • Sudhakar Sharma, Professional Lead for Learning Disability Physiotherapy – providing valuable advice and practical knowledge for families caring for children with additional needs.

  • Allison – bravely sharing her personal journey with Jade

For anyone who wasn’t able to attend in person, or who would like to revisit the talks, we’ve put together a playlist of all our guest speakers which you can watch here: SOFT UK Scotland Family Day Guest Speakers.

Fun for the Children

Meanwhile, the children had the best time in the creche, so much so, they didn’t want to leave! It was wonderful to hear laughter, see new friendships forming.

A Space for Remembrance and Celebration

Around the room, families could see touching displays of remembrance and celebration for children with trisomy. These moments and spaces are an important part of our family days, a way to honour every child.

Ending the Day Together

The day ended with a lovely shared dinner!

Family days like this remind us why they are so essential. They bring comfort, knowledge, joy, and togetherness – offering both practical information and heartfelt community support. They are a cornerstone of the work SOFT UK provides, and we are so grateful to everyone who joined us in Scotland, to our speakers, volunteers, and all who helped make the day so memorable.
