SOFT UK and Eastenders

Eastenders has been working alongside SOFT UK and Antenatal Results and Choices on a new story which will see Whitney Dean and Zack Hudson’s baby diagnosed with Edwards’ Syndrome.

We were pleased to be invited to work with the Eastenders team on how they could approach Whitney and Zack’s baby’s diagnosis of Edwards’ Syndrome in an accurate and sensitive way. We recognise that this story will not represent each individuals journey, and are keen to promote healthy discussion around other experiences.

SOFT UK is the only UK charity directly supporting families affected by a diagnosis of Edwards’ and Patau’s syndrome. For some families this includes providing information and support as they make difficult decisions during pregnancy. Where needed we also provide lifetime bereavement support for the whole family. And for a small but significant number of families caring for a baby or child (or adult) with an Edwards’ or Patau’s syndrome diagnosis we provide information, connection with other families and support.

Many families facing a diagnosis of Edwards’ or Patau’s syndrome have shared their story, which enables SOFT UK to develop a library of lived experiences for future families to draw upon. If you would like to share your own story and help us create a broader picture of different experiences, then please email contact@soft.org.uk

Anyone affected by the Eastenders story can contact SOFT UK for help on 0300 102 7638 or email us on support@soft.org.uk
