Reflections on 2025: A Year of Togetherness at SOFT UK
By Sonia Sankoli, Events & Communications Officer
As 2025 draws to a close, I’ve found myself looking back over the year with a real sense of pride. Working in events and communications for SOFT UK means I get to see, first-hand, how powerful it is when our community comes together. This year, that spirit shone brighter than ever.
Our England Family Day was the standout moment for me.
We welcomed over 60 attendees which was our highest number yet felt like a milestone in every sense. Families old and new came together, children lit up the space with their energy, and parents found comfort, understanding, and laughter in each other’s company. Days like this remind us why SOFT exists: to make sure no family walks this journey alone. Seeing so many trisomy families in one place was genuinely moving. You could feel the strength in the room straight away. Parents who have walked incredibly hard paths were chatting, laughing, comparing notes… and the children were the real highlight. It reminded me why our work matters so much. You can plan venues, timings, and activities, but it’s the families who bring the real heart and meaning to the day. Seeing them together and supporting each other in such an unspoken, natural way was easily the highlight of my year.
Looking ahead to 2026
What excites me most is taking the success of this England Family Day and spreading that energy across the rest of the UK. Scotland already has a strong, established community, and it’s inspiring to see how well-supported families feel there. Now, I’m really looking forward to seeing Northern Ireland and Wales grow in the same way and building more connections, more confidence, and more opportunities for families to come together.
To everyone who came, contributed, and shared part of their journey with us — thank you. You made 2025 a year I’ll look back on with real pride.
